In the Myst remake, realMyst, you find the Riven code for the crystal viewer. It can be viewed here: http://www.dnidesk.com/cathrimelg.html
If you enter it, something different happens. Normally when you enter a wrong combo, you hear a buzz sound. When you enter this combo, you don't. I can only assume from this series's history with eggs that this is a hidden trigger. Either that, or it's a correct combo and the viewer just doesn't show anything because it's a dead world. If you can't read the above combo, it is a follows (numbers indicate the shape starting from the left): First crystal: Red, 4 Second: Green, 8 Third: Cyan, 6 Forth: Yellow,1 Fifth: Purple, 7 I'm too lazy to find out what it does. If any of you ambitious explorers out there are still looking for eggs, you may want to experiment with this. And, since nobody on all of the net cares enough to research this, I got all 3 spirit guides and have some idea of how I did each. I suspect that the following factors effect which guide you get: -Whether or not you release the beetles at the beginning. -How much you use the in-game help. -Whether or not you help the monkey in Haven. Wind and fire are easy to get. I released the beetles, then went through Haven and then to Serenia. I never used the in game help or saw the injured monkey. Waking up the dreamers and getting your cloth now will give you a wind guide. However, if you go into the options menu and open the help map, then look at every hint on Serenia (all 3 levels), you should get a fire spirit. I got water the first time, and I'm not sure exactly how. I didn't free the beetles, used the help map a few times (maybe 2 level 3s and a few level 1s), and rolled the fruit next to the injured monkey in Haven (the fruit was half eaten when I returned so I assume it adds to your kindness attribute). I have no idea how the palm lines on the cloth work. When I was water (and had actually viewed every amulet scene and solved both prison ages), I had full head, fate, and health. Life was somewhere in the middle, and heart was pretty high. Offspring was empty. For wind (where I just ran through the game as fast as possible) I had high heart and some fate and nothing else. Fire was equally as empty. I wanted to share this info and this was the only serious Myst fan community I could find. So...I think I'll take advantage of this neat smiley now. ![]() |

That's really neat. I thought the whole spirit thing was totally random.

WOW! I think you're the first person I have heard of that actually got the fire guide! I had heard of people getting the water and wind guides before, but never fire! NICE detective work!!!

I tried the combination as well and I found that nothing seemed to happen. I tried a few things thinking that I may have entered it incorrectly... but on every changed sequence there was a small noise that followed... indicationg that it was incorrect.
QUOTE i did the combonation i got nothing Seeing as it did not make that small noise when this sequence was entered, it must have done something in the game... but I don't happen to see it anywhere ![]() -------------------- |

You'll still hear the sound of the button being pressed, but you won't hear the buzz sound that also normally plays in case I wasn't clear.
This may be just one trigger in one of those series of random actions that unlock the egg, like in Riven or Uru. If that's the case, we'll never be able to find the egg without some hints from Cyan. |

Maybe the Riven image does not show up in the Revelation crystal viewer because, at the time that Revelation takes place, Riven has been destroyed. [Note that when you look in the Riven book in Atrus's lab, all you see in the linking panel is fire and chaos.] But, at the time that realMyst takes place, Riven still exists.
-------------------- Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can.

So, how long does it usually take before Cyan/Spyder gives us some hints? We know there's at least one big egg because they admitted it in an interview and there's a file called SFX_Easter_Egg_LP.wav. It sounds like the noise the camera makes, I'm told. Maybe we enter the Riven code then open the picture viewer? I'd test it myself, but my copy of the game is curretly in another state.
BTW, I forgot to mention that the guide you get may also be effected by whether or not you take the picture at the beginning. This post has been edited by Frieza2000-XTC: Sep 21 2005, 02:04 PM |

I can't believe I have to be the one doing this. After 8 years. What kind of fans are you guys?
Someone with enough programming prowess to decipher the easter_egg.ai files who cared enough about the game finally sat down with it. There are 5 eggs total. These are his instructions (original thread here). ============================================================================ When you are playing with electricity with your head in the power box (Revelation Editor: Tomahna (day), Gardens, 111) have you ever considered clicking on: - The bottom panel? - One of the side bar of the frame? - One of the symbols in the back? - The bottom bar of the frame? - One of the sides panels? - One of the curved part of the outer housing? - The bottom panel? - One of the side bar of the frame? ---------------------------------------------------------------- There are a lot more places to explore at night. Which means... more hotspots! Maybe you can find some interesting ones in Yeesha's room. Of course, don't wait for Achenar to destroy them. If you can zoom on the bottom of the bookshelf and see the Serenia book, then nobody else has come yet. While you are there (Revelation Editor: Tomahna (night), Yeesha's bedroom, 31), can you do a little something? Click on... - One of the metal bar on the side - A book - A window - A door - A window - A book - A window - A book ---------------------------------------------------------------- Remember the power box? (Revelation Editor: Tomahna (night), Gardens, 111)... ---------------------------------------------------------------- You are doing Haven and have just reached the bridge? There are scratches on the box hiding the fives bones. Look closer. (Revelation Editor: Haven, Lakehouse, 10) You can touch - The wheel - Its axle - The rope - The box - One of the end of the axle where it gets larger - The box - The axle - The wheel ---------------------------------------------------------------- Or maybe you are in Spire looking for clues in Sirrus' lab. There are two on his desk right under a trap door (Revelation Editor: Spire, Sirrus' lab, 53). There are also - Pliers - Sheets - A nut at the bottom right - The table that you can see on the left - A hinge - Another hinge - A nut at the bottom right - Pliers ============================================================================ You'll get 5 pictures of the game designers with a film projector effect. I don't have the game anymore so I can't see them. I'm guessing they either pop up as you enter the codes or they appear in your camera. If someone would like to go to the trouble of posting a video of them I'd appreciate it. |

Here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEteV4B5_1s Having done it myself, here's a more exact description of how to do it: CODE ---------------------------------------------------------------- #1: Sound Design Team When you are looking in the power box in the garden room in Tomahna during the day, tap the following in this order: 1) The bottom panel, beneath the 12 buttons and between the reset switch on the left and the big button on the right. 2) Curved part of the outer metal housing (either side; doesn't matter). If it sounds like you're tapping wood then you're too close to the edge. Click toward the middle so you get a metal sound. 3) One of the 6 symbols in the back (any one of them; lit or not). 4) The bar at the bottom of the frame (NOT the metal thing in the middle of it, the bar on either side. It should make a wooden sound). 5) One of the metal panels on either side of the inside of the box (either one). 6) The same thing you tapped for #2 again (doesn't have to be the same side). 7) #1 again. 8) #2 again. ---------------------------------------------------------------- #2: Animation/Integration Team Do the same thing you did for Egg #1, but do it at night. ---------------------------------------------------------------- #3: Graphic/Design Team Before entering either prison age, go to Yeesha's room and zoom in on the bottom of the bookshelf (if it's been broken in to this won't work). Click on the following: 1) One of the metal bars on the side. 2) Any of the books. 3) The glass of one of the two windows. 4) The wood of one of the doors surrounding the window glass. 5) #3 again (doesn't have to be the same window). 6) #2 again (doesn't have to be the same book either). 7) #3 again. 8) #2 again. ---------------------------------------------------------------- #4: Programming Team In Spire, on the desk across from Sirrus's bed, there's a trap door on the right side that opens to reveal a sheet of paper with a blue crystal drawn on it. While zoomed in on this paper, tap the following: 1) The pliers. 2) The paper. 3) The nut in the bottom right corner. 4) The surface of the table (far left side of the screen). 5) A hinge (either one). 6) A hinge again. 7) #3 again. 8) #1 again. ---------------------------------------------------------------- #5: Game Design Team In Haven, zoom in on the wooden case enclosing the bridge puzzle controls (the case has to be closed). Tap on the following: 1) The ship wheel attached to the left side of the case. 2) The middle of the axle (the cylinder below the case). 3) The rope. 4) The case. 5) One of the ends of the axle (the larger pieces with a pattern carved on them). 6) #3 again. 7) #2 again. 8) #1 again. I also recorded the fire guide scene for those who could never get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ydyo-jfCvpI To elaborate on my last hypothesis, I now know that you can also skip calibrating the viewer at the beginning with Atrus and that there are two different scenes if you go up to Yeesha immediately to see the Gecko or if you wait. These are all tracked by the game, as confirmed in the Revelation Editor. As I wrote last time though, the hints you view definitely affects it too so there are things not listed in the editor. Now I'd kind of curious what actions influence the lines on your palm chart. I've never gotten anything in the offspring line. But we're probably never going to know. |

realXCV got in contact with me and it turns out they also solved how both the guide you get and the palm chart work!
Score Guide Between 0 and 1/3 (0.0 and 0.3333) - Fire guide Between 1/3 and 2/3 (0.3333 and 0.6666) - Wind guide Between 2/3 and 1 (0.6666 and 1) - Water guide Action / Event Score See Yeesha's gecko 1/30 0.0333 Finish sound puzzle with Atrus 1/30 0.0333 Watch Yeesha play her flute 1/30 0.0333 See Atrus in the crystal viewer 1/30 0.0333 Take a photo on the monorail (Take it of Yeesha just to be safe) 1/30 0.0333 Use the Tomahna linking book to Selenia 1/24 0.0417 Use the Tomahna linking books to both Haven and Spire 1/24 0.0417 Use both of the linking books from Haven and Spire to Tomahna 1/24 0.0417 Use the Selenia linking book to Tomahna 1/24 0.0417 View a flashback with the Amulet (101 total) 1/606 0.0017 Spend a minute in the game (up to 1200) 1/7200 0.0001 For each hint under 25 -1/150 -0.0067 For each usage of the zip feature under 30 -1/180 -0.0055 He said you start with a score somewhere in the Wind range but not exactly what. The only way to lower your score and get Fire is to use the hint map and the zip menu. As to how each line is calculated... Head: average of your amulet and linking book usage score Fate: based on your score for the first five elements in the list. Life: based on how much time you've spent in the game. Offspring: average of your scores for the number of pictures taken and the number of pages in your journal. Heart: based on the helpmap usage. Health: based on the zip usage.? |
