I've heard from people over at There.com who are just coming into URU for the first time that they've been getting frustrated by people not responding to them in game. I thought maybe it was just they weren't used to the differences in communication methods in URU, but sad to say, have found that they are correct. I've gone into both Ae'gura and the GoG Neighborhood a number of times already, and out of all those times only once did anyone respond to my greeting.

I know everyone is anxious to catch up with old friends and get themselves used to the game all over again as quickly as possible, and I know as Greeters we are no longer the official "go to" people, but please take the time to make the new folks feel welcome if you can.

I always expect that when I go to Ae'gura. But we should be better about that in the hood. I'll make sure I keep that in mind next time I'm there! smile.gif

Ae'gura does have an issue, I think. whereby people out of KI range won't hear you unless you /shout. But, yes, definitely we should be trying our best to create a friendly atmosphere in the GoG hood. Thanks for the kind reminder, dev!

You bring up a good point. I think launton was just going to try and verify if that's the case. If it's true that only those "near" you (those that have the >< around their name, it could easily appear that you are being ignored when in fact others simply can't "hear" you.

Also, if it's verified that only those with >< can here you, perhaps a simple post here and on the MOUL forums to indicate that will help some newcomers realize that they aren't truly alone, they're just too far from anyone to be heard at that moment.

Just tried it. No one answered me so I guess the original >name< is true.

I was also thinking, if you use your Ae'gura linking book, you go to your "Neighborhood's" version of the city age. It is likely that even if they have some neighbors currently online, chances are slim they would be in the city age. Going to the city using the nexus links you to the public version.

I do have to agree a bit on people not greeting anyone.
I of course am not a greeter anymore but the ones I have seen have not greeted anyone that I have seen link in.
In fact all the times I have been in I have only had one person even say hi to me and that is Preacher46 and he sent me a PM, took me awhile to figure out how to answer him.
People are busy I guess running about. But I do think the greeters are expected from people who are use to them.

At this point we only have a few folks who are actively greeting. They are doing as much as they are able to but are spread pretty thin. Something to remind folks to do so they can be heard by those around to to type /autoshout when they arrive in a location. That way, they don't need to type /shout each time they want to say or ask something.

No I understand Jade, I just meant that I think people who were in before are expecting it the same and it makes it difficult as all greeters are not in and up to par.

no offense was meant. I was just trying to explain what Ette said about the people from There.

After posting on the main forum, I found out the following (and didn't know it after all this time!)

>name< voicechat range not text range (thanks Rusty Russell)

Seriously? And all these years I thought it was text range as well! That's what we were always told, even in beta. I guess none of us knew! I learn something new every day!

I wasn't intending to be objectionable or to take anyone to task about their comments. I was just stating fact as a way of explanation. What we are doing is strictly on our own. We were as surprised as anyone about this whole thing. It will eventually work it's way out so lets all just have fun.

Rusty Russell is usually on the mark, so I'll take what he said as true.

But, either there are other text/distance issues or bugs that cause text not to be received by other folks in the same age that are some distance away.

A case in point, I was in Tsogal the other evening with about 8 or 9 folks and on a cloth. I could not see the door caller's text, nor could the door caller see mine. And we really weren't that far from each other. I was at the cloth by the covered pavillion and could actually see the door caller. And I was on /autoshout. Could have just been the lag. Who knows?

So, there may be something else going on to prevent text traffic being sent or received.

But the larger point Ette makes is a good one. And thanks for it! Let's be greeterly out there. biggrin.gif

Wow!....
This is soooo cool!
I'm still downloading, but I'll be MORE than happy to talk to anyone in the cavern again.
I'll have to remember how to do everything again, but I'm always willing to help someone learn as my rusty old mind comes back to life unsure.gif clapping.gif
