The added age of Rine is pretty disappointing. Am I missing something here?

Sure it was 3-D but not worth buying the game a second time. I expected more from Rine for the extra money this game cost. thumbsdown.gif

So you know what I did there:

I think it is just a bonus that goes with the 3D version. But in regards to Myst IV,

If you figure out how to work the easter eggs in realMYST the Rime age comes in handy.

Yes, Rime really isnt a very large age. There isnt a whole lot to do there, but as Slugzzz suggested, there are some interesting Easter Eggs to be found there. Personally, I did enjoy playing Myst in 3D much more than the original.

If you are patient enough, you can see the huge whales swimming down there in the sea

It has the added coolness of letting you know just what Atrus is talking about when he says he needs to go to the imager on Rime.

While this is true, the main intentions of realMYST was to test the engine that would eventually be used for UrU. Also, and more to the point, realMYST was what Cyan originally intended for Myst to look like but the technology was not available yet. Another note, specific to the Rime Age is that this Age specifically ties Myst to Riven in story line.

As for the Myst IV reference, realMYST was released 4 years before Myst IV was released. Myst IV did utilize references to all the previous games in the series (minus UrU) by utilizing images, sounds, puzzles, etc into the overall design of this game. Essentially a tribute to the four (including realMYST) previous games.
