sorry this isn't about the game itself, but i guess it's similar... bleh.gif

after much searching, i finally found the Myst III Exile Desktop Theme (the 11.5 MB one, downlaodable at http://www.4players.de/4players.php/downlo...nload/1694.html ). i tried to install it, and i got a message saying "Plus! package not installed. The readme provides information on how to install Plus!"

i looked at the readme, and it said the following:

QUOTE
TROUBLESHOOTING:
If there is no "desktop themes" icon in your control
panel, you'll need to install desktop theme support.
If you have Windows 95, you'll need to install the
Plus! package, which is sold separately from Windows.
If you have Windows 98, ME, or 2000, here's how to
install desktop theme support:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. On the Windows Setup tab, check the Desktop Themes box.
4. Click OK.

i'm running XP. there's no Desktop Themese icon in my Control Panel, but i do have "Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition" installed on my computer.

what do i do? cry.gif

Gadren,

Right-mouse click on the desktop --> Click Properties -->

The first tab will say Themes, click on the drop-down menu, which named Theme:, find Browse and find your Theme.

I'm not sure though that a theme that old will properly load into XP confused1.gif

i don't know if you quite understand here...
if i can get the .EXE file to extract and everything, then i can load the theme just fine. wink3.gif
however, it won't extract because it thinks i don't have Plus...so i have an .EXE file, but no .THEME file to use.

here's an idea, though: biggrin.gif
what if someone here was able to download and extract the theme file (using the link above), then could email me the extracted files? convoluted, sure, but it might work. wink3.gif

down.gif Sorry to tell you Gadren: that particular Desktop Theme you found is made for Win95/98 systems. It is NOT made for XP. You can extract the files from the .EXE file using WinZip and you will see it has a Setup.exe file. This file is trying to find a Plus! (for Win95) package installed or a Desktop Theme support (for Win98) installed.

I downloaded it from the link you provided and was not able to install it also in my XP. But it installed perfectly in my Win98 partition.

If you can extract the files from it, you can still manually install the wallpaper, mouse cursors and sounds seperately. It does take a lot longer, but it can be done. Then once you have it all loaded in how you want it, click the 'save as' next to the themes and name it whatever you like, and viola, you have your own theme package.
