Post your questions about the Gallery here, and I will try to answer them wink3.gif

Diskspace Allowances:-
  • Explorer - 5mb
  • Guild Associate - 10mb
  • Greeter - 15mb
  • Greeter Associate - 20mb
  • These allowances are subject to change. At the moment we are erring on the side of caution, but I am closely monitoring the gallery usage and will adjust the restrictions accordingly. We can also install a new hard drive specifically for the gallery if it proves popular enough, and then really ramp up your personal allowances.
Image Dimensions:-
  • Maximum image dimensions are 640*480. If you upload an image larger than that, the system will automatically resize it to these dimensions.
File Types:-
  • .jpg
  • .gif
  • .png
Tips:-
  • .jpg or .png have the best compression rate, and therefore you will get more images for your diskspace.
  • Reducing the color depth will reduce file size significantly.
  • Reducing the dimensions reduces file size.
  • The current average is 5 images per meg, but this varies.
I will add to this list as I think of new points, or get asked new questions.

Enjoy biggrin.gif

Are any pics uploaded into our posts included in this ? Or does this only pertain to the gallery ?

Thanks Tijara for the info. I am not using my space yet. But it will come sometime, never fear.
But when you are hosting our pictures and giving away diskspace I think you should ask donations at a more regular and less free basis.
It does not have to be so high as that you shy people away but I would think a contribution of about $ 50 a year appropiate.

No Corona. As you can see elsewhere I am on a pension.
But when something gives me as much pleasure as this site, I have no problem in donating less than $ 5 a month for keeping it possible to continue.

I agree with you Yoram. I am playing There, and I have had to buy Tbucks but when you consider how much fun (it is not URU, but is a good subsitute for me) I am having it is worth it. I would probably waste the money on something, like food, gas, insurances, utilities you know that stuff. must admit food does give me pleasure but just while eating it and the game gives me pleasure for hours.

I think I will have to buy in with you guys ... I have about 70 screen shots from the final 2 days of Live ... that I just found ... and even with reducing them I don't think I could post them all.

Do they have 300GB HD's yet. whistling.gif

Not to get anyone too excited, but the partition where the forum & gallery resides is about to be doubled in size.

We are currently using up about 100meg of space, out of the allotted total of around 500mb to 1gig for everyone to use.

Once the new drive comes online though I should be able to allocate between 3 - 5gig, so Tij should be able to up the quotas.
We do still have to allow enough for everyone though - not just the greedy ones (you know who you are) whistling.gif

I know some of you have offered drives, or to chip in to get a bigger one, and we are extremely grateful for the offers.
Just to clarify though, firstly this is not my server, the forum is piggy-backed in a co-lo facility, and in some respects my hands are slightly tied. This was done to split the bandwidth between the website and the forum, and to make us less suceptible to network outages where it matters most, on the forum.
This server also uses 'server-grade' drives (Sun SCSI-LVD), which also complicates matters.

And no, Tij is not the only one that can tease blink.gif

ok - we have approx 1500 registered users at the moment.

Let's say we be generous and give everyone 250mb

Furthermore, lets say 25% decide to use all their allotted space.

This would put our usage at over 90gb (although we're actually using double that because the partitions are mirrored for redundancy).

Factoring in space for future growth, we would be looking at requiring somewhere in the region of a 180gb drive. The best price at the moment for a suitable drive (SCSI-LVD) is around $700 each (we need two of them for mirroring), and that really only doubles the growth capacity.

We are however, investigating moving the forum to a more suitable home that has a mirrored 80gb partition ready for use.
