Emoticons, How do you get all of the cool emotions Options

How do you create them? How do you get them linked to your forum? Inquiring minds want to know I was wondering if the emotions available on this forum are open source or are they created by some of the very talented members.

Mari, majority of the emotes/smileys that are used on our forum came with the forum software. Some of the emotes were created by our members such as Tijara herself or a very smilyrific Wizzard of Oz: Shadowcats He has a huge resource of the smilies he gathered.

A good plug-in for Firefox that I use is Smiley Extra 4. If you have FF you can use this one to add extra smiley for your posts. You could also search the web for a lot of resources. If you find something interesting, you would upload it to your webspace (Photobucket is one of them). You would insert these smileys as you would any image on this forum.

No, forum software can't do that You would need an image editing software which is capable to save the images as an static or animated GIF, if you want the smileys to move, like etc.

With regard to the open-source question.
If I remember correctly most of our smilies are part of a set done by the IPB community and were donated with the proviso that they are only to be used conjunction with an IPB board.

For personal use I doubt the copyright police would chase after you, but if you were thinking of using them as part of an open source application for instance; you could technically be on dodgy ground.

In response to your question, smilies that are made can be uploaded to the forum database and used as one of the board selections, yes. I believe there is a limit on the maximum number that can be used by the board at one time though. As for the program Cats uses, he did say at one time, but I dont remember the name right off hand. I am fairly certain is was a free program he found.

Whomever made it, it was a smilie with a hard hat on as I recall...

Ayli's probably "fell through the crack" because there wasn't a nickname associated with her that would lend itself to a smilie...

I had always used the (because it's what I am, you know! ) until someone else came in and started using a version of it , but then got banned ...but at that point I felt it had become more associated with... erm... her/him than me that I just didn't try to reclaim it...

Were a few I used but I think L'lee might be referring to this one -> It wasn't included in 'the group' on the forum but it is one Cats whipped up for me!
