QUOTE (Ken Telinome @ Jan 27 2005, 08:29 PM) I have seen more hotheadedness and rash taken in the GoG feedback forum than in the Lava Pit. I noticed many posts on that forum that had to be locked because they were so out of control. ![]() The GoG's LavaPit in general is way more civilized and well behaved than some "normal" parts of other fora I've seen over time... Keep it, no-one's forced to read there ![]() This post has been edited by RobertKosten: Jan 28 2005, 08:09 AM -------------------- Eritis sicut Deus scientes bonum et malum.

QUOTE (gaiasmaiden @ Jan 27 2005, 07:12 PM) for me the lava pit was a place to talk about things that might be touchy to others religion gun control time travel scientific ideas society or lack of aliens..... this was a place that we could go and talk about things with our friends here at gog. i would be disappointed if it were to be taken out. i thought that it was going to be set up so that if you didn't want it it told a mod or gm and it would be locked out of your account. i felt that was a reasonable way to handle it. This option is available but few have chosen it. All one needs to do is ask and it will disapear. -------------------- |

Keep it!
In addition to providing a forum for topics that may be controversial, it's also a place to where any topics or threads that have become controversial or heated can be moved to. This gives the Mods an alternative to completely shutting down or deleting a thread. Just "knowing" that you're in the Lava Pit should be warning enough that you might find things that will make you uncomfortable or angry, but you will have those situations in RL anyway. Here, you can always choose to stay away. (Though, I think people will be missing some interesting topics if they do.) -------------------- "What are we going to do today, Borg?"

I have to vote in favor of the Lava Pit: Keep it.
Nerf and Robyn: very insightful comments. Albert: I often have to stop and think a bit about what you are saying. You leave a lot between the lines. Your sub surface humour makes me laugh. ![]() Back to the Lava Pit: In the same way that I like to see through the eyes to the person I am talking to face to face, I like to know what people think and believe when their thoughts, tenets, isms, interests and insights are not restricted by a place where such expressions are inappropriate. It allows us to show a little more of who we are in what should be a civilized environment. I feel free to express my views through my Christian lenses in the Lava Pit (Hows that for a paradox?), without having to sanitize the line of thought, and I quite enjoy learning about what others think and believe and see in the world through the Lava Pit. We seem able to behave thus far. ![]() ![]() Edit: Some of us have things we would like to discuss that are outside of the general forum paramaters, (Gaiasmaiden said it nicely). The Lava Pit allows for that. Indeed, the very civility and friendliness of this forum invites further discussion on a wider range of topics with the expectation that judgemental condemnation will not follow, nor irrrational flaming from emotion having been divorced from reason. If indeed the voting is over and the Lava Pit survived, excellent, but then I've always been a bit slow on the uptake. Even my kids will use the " um, Daaad, hheeeellloooo".

Well perhaps thats not as slow as me; I did not even realise how close we came to loosing the Lava Pit!
![]() Excellent that it is staying, I enjoy posting in there and seeing other peoples views and opinions on different subjects that may be a little strange to voice in everyday conversation elsewhere. Glad it stayed! ![]() |
