"...i see your lips... the summer kisses,
the sunburned hands i used to hold;
since you went away, the days grow long,
and soon i'll hear old winter's song...
but i miss you most of all, my darling..."
Juru
QUOTE (d'rbeh @ Jan 28 2005, 02:51 AM)
name the song, if you please:

Autumn Leaves
Lotta Lagg
Flaming followers that brightly blaze
Swilling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincentís eyes of china blue
Color changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artistís loving hand
Now I understand what you tried to say to me
Juru
Vincent
Lotta Lagg

when the cold wind comes
i go where the dahlias bloom
i keep drifting back
to your florida room
She's dressed too warm
for this latitude
we go out to lunch
with some jamaican dude
then the sunshower breaks
we come in out of the rain
but in her florida room
there's a hurricane
While the city freezes over
we'll be strollin' down the shore
can she bring me back
to life once more

Oops! First I mess up by not posting lyrics to a new song, then there is a double post. So sorry, d'rbeh.

"The Voice"

would you take me back to school
i need to learn the golden rule
would lay it on the line
i need to hear it just one more time
oh oh wont you tell me

Here's a couple lines from one of my favorites:

And when people meet, in this romantic setting
They're so hypnotized be the lovely...

BTW, "be the lovely" is not a typo.

P.S. ammater, the name of your song is "Florida Room"
Nyrphame Danilaise
This is a great thread guys, but would you mind posting the artist singer and/or songwriter, for those of us who wish to hear more????

Squish
...

nerf.
d'rbeh
good idea, nyrph...

at times, the song may be so recored by so many people that finding the originator may be work... if the posters DONT know the person who sang it or who wrote it, don't let that stop you from posting your answer, but when you do, please include the info... there may be some i wish to buy also! smile.gif

thumbsup.gif

the intent of the thread was just to find names of the songs, but i would value seeing who recorded/sang it and who might have composed it too! smile.gif

hug.gif to nyrph!

Okay, here's one:
Got on a plane in Brisco,
And got off in Vietnam.
I walked into a different world,
My past forever gone.
I could have gone to Canada,
I could have stayed in school.
But I was brought up differently,
I couldn't break the rule!
Thirteen months and fifteen days,
The last ones were the worst.
One minute I'd kneel down and pray,
The next I'd stand and curse.
No place to run to where I did not feel that war.
When I got home,
I stayed alone,
And checked behind each door,
d'rbeh
yes, Anathea...

sung in this particular version by Judy Collins
attributed to Lydia Woods, of French origin

and i have NO clue about your hint, Dragon... whew, a toughie!!!
coelho_buda
Dragonkin's one is: Still in Saigon by Charlie Daniels Band.

"1 2, 1 2, '94
I'm on the set, freaks on the floor
Don't worry about my name, it's 2 long 2 remember
I could tell U now but we'd be here 'til next September
3, it be like that, see?
This ain't about the trippers trippin' like they know they be
This ain't about this, that, what, where, or how
This about the freaks doing everything they wanna do now!"

Here's one for yas:

If I keep my self-control,
I'll be safe in my soul.
And the childhood belief
Brings a moment's relief,
But my cynic soon returns
And the lifeboat burns.
My spirit just never learns.

Stalactites, stalagmites
Shut me in, lock me tight.
Lips are dry, throat is dry.
Feel like burning, stomach churning,
I'm dressed up in a white costume
Padding out leftover room.
Body stretching, feel the wretching
In the cage
Get me out of the cage!

the drifting patches lift and fold, the sunlight cuts them white and cold..."
coelho_buda
Wish I could see it Beh... how I wish I could see Purple Rain live: it always brings me to tears.
devonette
Here's one for you:

Open up your eyes and see the brand new day
A clear blue sky and brightly shining sun
Open up your ears and hear the breezes say
Everything that's cold and gray is gone
Open up your hands and feel the rain come down
Taste the wind and smell the flowers' sweet perfume
Open up your mind and let the light come in
The earth has been reborn and life goes on
d'rbeh
oh yes, rabbit.gif !!!! purple rain is one of my favorites as well!!!!!!!

ok, two in the queue for now:

first:

"...sometimes the fog in Monterey comes blowing from the grove above,
and then tears away;
the drifting patches lift and fold, then sunlight cuts them white and cold..."

and then:

Open up your eyes and see the brand new day
A clear blue sky and brightly shining sun
Open up your ears and hear the breezes say
Everything that's cold and gray is gone
Open up your hands and feel the rain come down
Taste the wind and smell the flowers' sweet perfume
Open up your mind and let the light come in
The earth has been reborn and life goes on

devonette, those words are beautiful! ::: getting out my pad and pencil once the name and author and performer come through... :::

hug.gif

PS. rabbit.gif, was i correct in my guess to your offering earlier, which i know to be Fado, but unsure as to title?
devonette
d'rbeh, yours is "The Fog in Monterey", which I believe was written by Thom Moore and has been performed by various artists, including Mary Black.

so, that means mine above is the only one still unanswered?
coelho_buda
Beh, yes that was "A Casa da Mariquinhas" up there.

'ette I'm seeing someone who loved space and somehow four seasons come to mind... is rabbit.gif on the right track?

Methinks rabbit.gif is definitely on the right track!
d'rbeh
ohhhh....

i think it is something like Suite for the Seasons, sung by John Denver... at least that is who i remember singing it now... maybe the title is wrong... huh.gif

smile.gif

bye2.gif

here's another of my favorites:

Down in the fields, nine in the morning,
Day's work three hours done,
Care for the corn, care for the cows,
Care for the land we need.

God moves the sun, noon brings the weary man
Home to his table and his grace.
Bow on our knees, thankful that these
Days are our very own.

Life means our work. Home means our children.
Love means each other every day.
Strong hearts and hands molding the lands,
All over earth they toil.
devonette
Very good! And close enough! It's "Season Suite", written and sung by John Denver, this particular lyric coming from the section titled "Spring".
d'rbeh
bumpin it on up....kicking.gif

Found it on the ether: song is Men of the Fields. Don't know the artist though.
Who is it by Beh?
L'lee
Hmmm, would that be Buffy Sainte-Marie?
d'rbeh
hug.gif rabbit.gif and l'lee and points rabbit.gif toward l'lee....

what she said... smile.gif

thumbsup.gif
incredible artist and wonderful song.
d'rbeh
ok, gonna bump cuz no new posters:

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread.
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in the stream,
And caught a little silver trout.

When I had laid it on the floor,
I went to blow the fire aflame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And someone called me by my name.
It had become a glimmering girl,
With apple blossom in her hair,
Who called me by my name and ran,
And faded through the brightening air.

Though I am old with wandering,
Through hollow lads and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands.
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done,
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

ok... song title
ONE of the artists who sang it
and
name of original poem
and
author.... smile.gif

devonette
dr'beh, I know it's "The Song of the Wandering Aengus", which was a poem by W.B. Yeats, but if it was made into a song, it's probably a folk song recorded by various folk musicians.

Obviously you know of someone who recorded it, so please share!
d'rbeh
such recordings have been made under the title "golden apples of the sun"

one of the most haunting was by

Donovan
devonette
Okay, I see Judy Collins also did that one, dr'beh!

Now here's one:

You take a bus marked "Lakewood Drive"
And you keep on ridin' 'til you're out of the city.
Where the air is fine with the sweet smell of pine
And the countryside's pretty
And you'll see daffodils, peepin' over the hill
or a honey-lovin' mama bear
Just take a left at the bridge, go down to Quakertown Ridge
And in a minute you're there
d'rbeh
oh my goodnes... this one takes me back...

Indian Lake

by the Cowsills!

"Indian Lake is a scene
You should make with your little one
Keep it in mind if you're lookin to find
A place in the summer sun"

ok... next one...

"Things you said that day
Up on the 101
The girl had come undone
I tried to downplay it
With a bet about us
You said that you'd take it
As long as I could
I could not erase it"
d'rbeh
hmmm... am i the ONLY Tori Amos fan here? whistling.gif

A Sort of Fairy Tale.....

anyone have lyrics for us to guess?

They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away

Here's another song I like:

"I wish I was smarter,
I got so lost on the shore,
I wish I was taller,
Things really matter to me.

But I'll put my face in tomorrow,
I believe we're not alone,
I believe in beatles,
I believe my little song has grown,
And I'm still so afraid,
Yes, I'm still so afraid,
Yea, I'm still so afraid,
On my own,
On my own.

What made my life so wonderful?
What made me feel so bad?
I used to wake up the ocean.
I used to walk on clouds.

If I put faith in medication,
If I can smile a crooked smile,
If I can talk on television,
If I can walk an empty mile,
Then I won't feel afraid,
No, I won't feel afraid,
I won't be be afraid,
Anymore,
Anymore,
Anymore."

Yes, I know it is the whole lyrics, but if you know it, you know it, and if you don't you won't, no matter how much of it I show. That's one of the beauties of many of this artist's songs.
ghavin
David Bowie? Maybe? I'm not sure though...
d'rbeh
David Bowie (one of my brother's favorite singers)
"Afraid"

*******

I am a backseat driver from America
They drive to the left on Falls Road
The man at the wheel's name is Seamus
We pass a child on the corner he knows
And Seamus says, "Now, what chance has that
kid got?"
And I say from the back, "I don't know."
He says, "There's barbed wire at all of these exits . . .
And there ain't no place in Belfast for that kid
to go.
devonette
That would be "It's A Hard Life Wherever You Go" by Nanci Griffith, although I believe it's also been performed by several other artists.

now here's one:

"They say the world must end somehow
They say the end's not far from now
I think they're wrong
Don't worry your life away
Start living for today
Don't think about tomorrow"
mystmum
Is it The Hollies? Definitely 60s.

Yes, it's the Hollies, mystmum! Now can you tell me the name of the song?
Dragonkin
"Live for Today"

I'm not completely sure, so I won't give another song.
devonette
Nope, not the right title, Dragonkin! Try again? It was on a Hollies LP in 1983 when Graham Nash came back to the group.
Dragonkin
"If The Lights Go Out". biggrin.gif It took some time.

Okay, now I must think of a great song that all will clamor in envy for not posting it themselves. Hmmm.... How's this one?

"A little piece of you,
A little piece in me,
Will die,
For (Title).
Blossom fails to bloom this season,
Promise not to stare too long,
For this is not the miracle.

There was a time,
A storm that blew so pure,
For this could be the biggest sky,
And I could have the faintest idea.

Snowman melting from the inside,
Falcon spirals to the ground,
So bloody red tomorrow's clouds.

A little piece of you,
The little piece in me,
Will die,
For (Title).

There was a time,
A wind that blew so young,
For this could be the biggest sky,
And I could have the faintest idea."

Again, the whole song (minus background). Enjoy. biggrin.gif
coelho_buda
David Bowie's "This is not America"

Now for something that's been haunting Rabbit's head...

"Save me
From this sadness it's coming
Or take me
Before my smile is dissolving
Wake me
From this nightmare I'm entering
Don't let me fall in the corners of my own
As a tear comes from inside
I feel like
I'm gonna drown
And as I'm searching for something to occupy
My mind again
I lay down
Down on my bed
But then a picture of my soul
Shows me
There's no way instead
Touch me
Make me feel I'm alive
Or forget me
Maybe I will die with time
Love me
All I need is a hug
Embrace me
'Cause times are going too rough
But as I think I'm lost nowhere
I find where I
I am all alone
And as I'm despairing slowly just looking
At my night without stars
I pray that
That someone could call
[...]"
